Fiji's interim Prime Minister offers assistance to NZ after quake

Fiji's interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama has sent a message to New Zealand Prime Minister John Key conveying the country's heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and all those affected by the earthquake that struck Christchurch.

Commodore Bainimarama has told Mr Key that the government and people of Fiji have been shocked and saddened at the loss of precious lives and damage to property caused by the disastrous earthquake.

He has told FBC News that Fiji shares with the government and the people of New Zealand the distress and sorrow in these challenging times.

Commodore Bainimarama says Fiji is ready, if New Zealand considers it appropriate, to make available any means of assistance they may need to cope with the aftermath of the earthquake.
