Samoa company complains about rival aircraft engineers from Tonga

The chief executive of Samoa's Polynesian Airlines is claiming Tongan aircraft engineers are working illegally at Apia's Faleolo airport.

Taua Fatu Tielu says he intends to making a formal complaint to the ministry of labour and immigration.

He says engineers from Palu Aviation Services, a Tongan company which legitimately services Air New Zealand aircraft, are now working on Polynesian Blue planes, and he says that's not allowed under their work permits.

Until late last year Polynesian Airlines staff did the engineering work on the Polynesian Blue planes and Mr Tielu says this should continue.

He says under Samoan law work that can be performed by locals should not be given to foreigners.
