Cook Islands Party MP resigns from party

8:47 am on 9 March 2011

The Cook Islands Party MP for Teenui/Mapumai, Norman George, has resigned from the party.

Cook Islands news reports Mr George has opted to continue his parliamentary career spanning 28 years as an independent MP.

He also stresses that by going independent he is not the opposition.

Since last November's general election, Mr George has been vocal over his dissatisfaction with the Party and disappointment over not being selected by prime minister Henry Puna for cabinet.

The prime minister is expected to comment on Mr George's resignation today.
