Pacific Games spots on the line for Cook Islands

The Cook Islands National Olympic Committee is continuing to narrow down the pool of athletes vying for the chance to compete at the Pacific Games in New Caledonia in August.

The team's Chef de Mission, George George Williamson, says the country has high hopes for medals from their bodybuilders and canoers in Noumea and with just over five months to go until the Games opening they wont be letting just anyone compete.

"It'll be very competitive and at the end of the day our sports development unit is going round to ensure that teams are keeping up with their training programs and I've made it clear to everyone that I would only be looking at the best of the best. Other than that I'm not even going to consider anyone that just wants to be part of the team that heads out to Noumea."

George George Williamson says it's a shame the country's lawn bowlers and touch rugby team wont be able to compete as the sports weren't included in the schedule for this year's games.
