Talks underway for Cooks airfares for Christchurch quake heroes

4:03 pm on 16 March 2011

The Cook Islands Tourism Corporation is negotiating with Air New Zealand and Pacific Blue to obtain free airfares between New Zealand and the Cook Islands for heroes of the Christchurch earthquake.

More than 50 businesses in the Cook Islands have offered to provide free accommodation, meals, lagoon cruises, historical tours and domestic flights to form 100 holiday packages.

The Director of Destination Development for Cook Islands Tourism, Metua Vaiimene, says he anticipates the holiday packages will be gifted within the next few weeks, when the corporation feels the time is appropriate.

He says the holidays will be officially offered to the Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker, who will be asked to select the recipients.
