The manager of Papua New Guinea's Kavieng Airport in New Ireland Province, Rapaon Kupao, says it remains shut down by a landowners' protest.

The landowners forced the closure of the airport on Tuesday.

They are demanding the national government pay them millions of dollars in compensation for the use of their land for the town and airport.

Local media reports that the landowners says they haven't received any payment over the past 37 years.
