Auckland City set sights on Vanuatu's Amicale Football Club

Auckland City are confident they have the game to beat Amicale FC after the Vanuatu side confirmed their spot in next month's Oceania Champions League final.

Amicale ended their group phase with a disappointing 1-0 loss at Koloale but still finished one point clear of the Solomon Islanders to top Group A.

Meanwhile Auckland City warmed up for next month's clashes with a 5-0 drubbing of Tefana.

Co-coach Aaron McFarland admits he doesn't know too much about Amicale just yet but believes his side have the right game to trouble the O-League newcomers.

"We've got a style we think suits playing Island sides. When you go up there in the heat and everything you need to be able to keep hold of the ball and I think we're doing that in a way a lot of New Zealand sides haven't been able to do in the past. I think that will prove beneficial for us - not to say we're definitely going to win but we'll feel quite confident going to the Islands now and, perhaps, being able to control possession a bit more, which is really important as Waitakere found out last year when they went to PNG."

In the weekend's other matches Waitakere United edged Magenta 2-1 and Lautoka were held to a 1-1 draw at Hekari United.
