The former Honolulu Mayor, Francis Hannemann, says the CNMI should continue marketing itself as a tourism destination even during tough financial times.
Mr Hannemann was the keynote speaker at yesterday's opening of the two-day Economic Restoration Summit at the Saipan World Resort in Susupe.
Mr Hannemann, now president of the Hawaii Hotel & Lodging Association, emphasized Hawaii's simple strategies to promote and maintain its 11-billion US dollar tourism industry, including ensuring public safety, giving importance to infrastructure and construction, and consistent marketing as a tourism destination.
He also urged emphasis on cultural and environmental experience for tourists, the availability of air service, ensuring a balance between hospitality and security, and taking advantage of the military buildup in Guam to shore up tourism.
