A Civil Defence official says Hawaii's Big Island suffered more 14 million US dollars in damage during the tsunami that was triggered by the recent earthquake in Japan.
Hawaii County Civil Defence Administrator, Quince Mento, says the new estimate includes more than 11 million dollars in damage to businesses, and about 2.5 million dollars in damage to residences.
Hawaii News Now reports businesses that were affected include the Kona Inn and the King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel.
The data does not account for loss of contents during the tsunami.
State officials will use the report to request federal assistance.
