Somare sentencing due after PNG tribunal

The Papua New Guinea prime minister, Sir Michael Somare, will hear later this afternoon whether he will be dismissed, suspended, fined or reprimanded after being found guilt of 13 misconduct charges on Monday by the Leadership Tribunal.

Sir Michael was found not guilty on 12 of 25 allegations of misconduct in office.

The Post Courier reports that the guilty verdicts are in relation to the late lodgment of annual financial statements between 1998 and 2004. and incomplete statements going back to 1992 and through to 2005.

Our corrrespondent says moderate fines are the most likely punishment.
