Court in Samoa to hear ten election petitions

6:57 am on 25 March 2011

Ten election petitions have been filed in the court office in Samoa.

The petitioners are candidates who were not successful but they meet the requirements of having polled more than half of the winner's votes to enable them to file election petitions.

The deadline for petitions to be filed was yesterday - 7 days after the vote count was finalised.

A court registrar says the names of the petitioners will be released today after some work is done to arrange legal documents and affidavits to support each case.

No other details were released to the media.

All the petitions are scheduled to be heard for mention in mid April.
