Samoa hope new approach will help in Hong Kong

Samoa are hoping a new approach will pay dividends at the Hong Kong Sevens, which begins on Friday.

The defending Hong Kong champions are currently third in the IRB World Series standings, trailing leaders England and New Zealand by 16 points, and are yet to win a tournament in the current campaign.

Mikaele Pesamino has been ruled out with a niggling knee injury but the team is boosted by the return of star playmakers Lolo Lui and Uale Mai.

Coach Stephen Betham admits the pressure of defending their overall world series title has got to them at times so far, so this week they've tried to change things up a bit.

"We have taken a bit of a different approach here to Hong Kong. We've tried to be more relaxed and then not to worry about everything that's surrounding us at the moment. So yeah we've taken a more relaxed approach, like we did last year, and hopefully it will pay off for us."
