Former Fiji leader to stand trial on abuse of office charges in September

The trial of former Fiji prime minister, Laisenia Qarase, on abuse of office charges has been set for September the 12th.

The Fiji Live website reprts that Mr Qarase appeared today in the Suva High Court for a pre-trial conference, along with the former Fijian Holdings Ltd chairman, Sitiveni Weleilakeba, who's facing the same charges.

Both men have been charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption with ten counts of abuse of office, forgery and uttering forged documents.
