Waters contamination plagues Solomons capital

3:16 pm on 8 April 2011

Solomon Island health authorities are warning Honiara residents to boil their drinking water as a new report reveals it is highly contaminated with faecal matter.

SIBC reports the information was released by Honiara City Council's Health Division this week.

The council's report says out of twenty-two water samples taken from water sources across Honiara last month 20 contained bacteria of faecal matter.

The report could not determine whether the faecal matter was a result of human or animal waste.

The council has immediately recommended that entire communities of Honiara must boil their drinking water and store them safely.
