Samoa looks to establish a shadow Cabinet system

Samoa's Opposition leader Va'ai Papu Vaelupe will ask government for support for legislation for a Shadow Cabinet to be recognised officially.

Va'ai's Tautua Samoa Party announced a Shadow Cabinet last week, the first time this has been done.

The Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi, approved of the move saying it will allow Opposition MPs to focus on their particular areas.

He said this would allow them to gain a deeper knowledge of matters which makes for more informed debate in Parliament.
