The owner of the Fiji Times Mahendra Motibhai Patel and a former Post Fiji managing director Tevita Peni Mau have been sent to jail.

The High Court judge Justice Daniel Goundar sentenced the former Post Fiji board chairman Patel to 12 months jail and Mau to nine months after finding them guilty of abuse of office.

In buying an external clock, the two were found to have ignored procedures of Post Fiji Limited.

The purchase was made from a company owned by Patel.

Justice Gounder said Patel was motivated by greed to increase his corporate wealth.

The assessors didn't find him guilty but the judge overturned their verdict.
