Sport: Fiji Sevens coach sacked

10:44 am on 16 April 2011

The Digicel Fiji 7s coach Iliesa Tanivula has been relieved from his post.

Fiji Village online says the decision was made by the Fiji Rugby Board following a meeting.

Following Tanivula's removal, the Fiji Rugby Union Board endorsed Assistant Coach, Josateki Savou as Tanivula's replacement for the last two legs of the IRB 7s series in London and Scotland only.

Tanivula was taken out after the Fiji 7s team remained winless for 14 months.

Meanwhile the FRU has identified a group of potential 7s coaches whose teams have been performing well consistently in local competitions.

It says these coaches will be given the opportunity to apply for the vacant post once they have received training provided by the HPU and Development Unit.

A new coach will be selected by the incoming board of directors after the FRU AGM on the 30th of this month.
