Reports from Indonesia say police officers shot dead four men, as well as torching four homes, in a security forces sweep operation of Moanemani, the capital of Dogiyai Regency in West Papua.

West Papua Media Alerts says that according to local witnesses, an incident began when police wanted to disperse some people at a gambling venue.

Police took money from a gambling fixture underway in the venue.

But when local people challenged the police about the confiscation, they were attacked by police.

Several houses in Dogiyai have reportedly been burned down by police.

About 2,000 residents fled to the forests.
