Vanuatu readies for no confidence debate

3:11 pm on 20 April 2011

The Vanuatu Parliament is due tol hold an extra-ordinary session tomorrow morning to debate the motion of no confidence in prime minister, Sato Kilman.

26 of the 27 MPs who signed the motion against Mr Kilman have remained closeted and are under guard at the Tara Beach Resort since last Friday.

The opposition camp claims it's confident of voting him out tomorrow.

But the government has already lured back Alfred Carlot by making him minister of lands, just two days after he had resigned and signed the motion.

An opposition source claims the government has also offered the opposition leader, Edward Natapei, the prime ministership, but that he declined the offer.

Under the proposal Mr Kilman would be the deputy prime minister, which was the arrangement before he overthrew Mr Natapei last December.
