Melbourne Rebels wing Cooper Vuna and Waratahs lock Sitaleki Timani have been included in Tonga's initial 50-man squad for the Rugby World Cup.

The Ikale Tahi coach, Isitolo Maka, named the pair in the squad, which will be trimmed to 30 later in the season.

The squad to compete at June's Churchill Cup tournament in London, as well as the Pacific Nations Cup event in July will be selected from the squad, before Maka finalises his team for the world cup.

Along with Vuna and Timani a number of overseas-based players have been included in the squad, from countries such as New Zealand, England, Ireland and France.
