The Fiji interim government has approved the introduction of Bio-diesel and Ethanol standards by approving the Trade Standards National Diesel Standards Order 2011.

Fiji Live reports a government statement saying submissions made by interim Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum had allowed for the approval of the new bio fuel standards.

He says the new standards will guarantee users quality fuel and motorists and consumers will be assured that biofuels will perform in a similar manner as diesel or petrol.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum says the order will also offer engine and automobile manufacturer's assurances to release warranties for their vehicles to be operated on specific fuels.
