New Women's Council chosen in Vanuatu

3:31 pm on 27 April 2011

Thirty Vanuatu women's groups have elected a new Port Vila Town Council of Women to administer the affairs of women in the Capital.

The groups come from different church denominations, community organisations, private companies and the Vanuatu Public Service.

The Daily Post says the women also elected a women's leader, Lily Hanghangkon, as their President and Daisy Warsal as their Deputy President.

The organiser of the election Maryanne Bani is the Administrator of the Vanuatu National Council of Women.

Miss Bani says the former Council became ineffective three years ago and she believes the election of the new council is timely in order to prepare to take part in the election of the President of the National Council in July.
