An American lawyer who has worked in the Micronesia area since the 1970s has been charged with tax evasion by the Marshall Islands Attorney General's office.
The Prosecutor, Jack Jorbon, revised a tax-related criminal case against David Lowe, reducing the number of charges from 153 to 86.
However, he added a new charge that aims to prevent Mr Lowe from practicing law in the Marshall Islands.
Mr Lowe, who is based in California, is the lawyer of a former Marshall Islands President and paramount chief Imata Kabua.
He has also represented many high-profile clients in the Marshalls when he was a public defender during the US administration of the Micronesia area when it was a Trust Territory.
Mr Lowe is alleged to have paid no Marshall Islands taxes from 2005 to 2011.
