Renewable energy generation is at the forefront of the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation's future plans for electricity production in the Northern Mariana Islands.

The CUC spent more than 54 million US dollars in fuel to run its power, water and sewer facilities in fiscal year 2010 - up by 7.2 million compared to the previous period

The corporation's audit report says part of its future plans is to use renewable energy generation to produce electricity.

The report says part of the plan is to introduce a net-metering policy this year and says customers will be able to choose to produce their own renewable energy and sell excess power to the CUC.
