Tautua Samoa President denies division in his caucus

10:14 am on 4 May 2011

The President of the Tautua Samoa party, Va'aelua Eti Alesana, has denied his caucus is divided over the selection of a new leader.

The party's former leader, Vaai Papu Vaelupe, was found guilty last week of bribery and treating in March's general election.

Va'aelua comments is in response to political analysis and public opinion over the selection of a new selection leader.

He has also dismissed suggestions that former judge and new MP, Lefau Harry Schuster, and senior MP and former speaker, A'eau Peniamina, be elected as party leaders.

Va'aelua says the selection of a new leader will now be held in a caucus meeting next week because some party members are still overseas.

The president has called a media conference today to explain the plan before the election a new leader.
