More than 200 Pacific scholarships are to be awarded by New Zealand's Ministry of Health at this year's Pacific Health Workforce Awards in Auckland.
New Zealand's Pacific Islands Affairs minister, Georgina te Heuheu, says to have so many successful candidates of such outstanding calibre is very good news for overall Pacific health outcomes.
This year 203 Pacific students in medicine, nursing, oral health, midwifery and the allied health areas of physiotherapy and social work will receive awards.
Mrs te Heuheu says that's slightly up on the number of scholarships awarded last year but well up on the 24 awarded in the ten years to 2007.
The scheme aims to develop the Pacific health workforce.
