PNG volleyballers make strong start

Papua New Guinea have made the perfect start to the defence of their Arafura Games men's volleyball title.

After a straight sets victory over the Australian Defence Organisation in their first match on court, the 2009 champions outclassed South Australia in game two.

The team manager, Jack Mahuru, says it's been a pleasing start and the team is determined to retain their title.

"I told the boys, look, me as the leader of the pack that's brought the team up here, I've made mention to them that my goal not only is bringing them across to Darwin, their goal is to defend it and return it back to PNG."

The men's National Capital District team from PNG had one win and a loss while the women's team beat the Northern Territory in four sets.

The PNG men's team are first up on court this morning against the Northern Territory.
