Flights unperturbed by Vanuatu airport strike

1:49 pm on 18 May 2011

Air Vanuatu says a strike by workers in Vanuatu hasn't hampered flights around the country.

More than 100 employees of Aviation Vanuatu Limited, who are members of the Vanuatu Workers Union, have taken industrial action this morning.

They have gone to their work places but refused to carry out duties.

One of the workers, Calo Tom, says they've taken action because AVL, which is a public agency, hasn't put into place agreements reached by the union and the labour department on their work conditions.

The minister of public utilities, Harry Iauko, has requested the strikers call off their action.
