American Samoa govt hires a Comptroller

9:32 am on 19 May 2011

The American Samoa Government has finally hired a Comptroller, the first time the position has been filled since the hurried departure of former comptroller Brian Mix in 2008.

Matthew Grady comes to American Samoa after 20 years with the US Department of Justice, Office of the Inspector General.

He was audit manager for the San Francisco regional audit office which had jurisdiction over Guam, American Samoa and the Northern Marianas.

Mr Grady is making it his main task to establish a system of well written internal controls so that everyone knows what they should do.

The lack of internal controls in ASG;'s central financial system has been a long standing finding of weakness in annual audits.
