A Vanuatu cabinet minister is to appear in court in June to face assault charges against the publisher of a local newspaper.

The minister of Public Utilities, Harry Iauko and eight others will face four charges relating to an alleged incident involving the publisher of the Daily Post, Marc-Neil Jones, in March.

The proasecutions office confirms that the four charges are unlawful assembly, tresspass, intentional assault and threatening.

A court registrar says the defence lawyer last week successfully adjourned the case until June the 10th.

The Minister and his associates will appear as a group in the magistrates court in Port Vila.
