Samoa title claims no clearer after 30-year dispute

The bestowing of one of Samoa's three paramount titles after more than 30 years is unlikely to have clarified who should be next in line.

83-year old Mata'afa Tupuola Lui received the title at a traditional royal ceremony at the weekend.

But our correspondent in Apia, Autagavaia Tipi Autagavaia, says the next time the Mata'afa title becomes vacant, the process is likely to be repeated:

"The family will come again and have a discussion, they will take more years also to have this discussion with families and most probably will end up in the Lands and Titles Court."
