American Samoa shipyard service set up by executive order

3:05 pm on 1 June 2011

A new American Samoa government agency, the Shipyard Services Authority, has been established by executive order to take charge of and operate the shipyard at Satala.

The establishment of the authority comes a few days before the shipyard, now under MYD Samoa, is transferred back to the government.

The federal bankruptcy court in southern Florida, which has been hearing MYD's bankruptcy case had set May the 31st as the date for the transfer to be completed.

The authority will have a water transportation division responsible for the repair of government owned vessels and provide for the efficient administration of government vessels.
