CNMI on alert for tainted Taiwanese drinks

The CNMI Bureau of Environmental Health has joined the worldwide recall of some Taiwanese beverages after recieving an emergency alert on 78 products.

They are believed to contain a chemical that is harmful to reproductive organs.

Based on the emergency notice from the International Food Safety Authorities Network, a number of sports drinks and soft drink products from Taiwan have been found to be contaminated with the chemical 2-ethy hexyl, which is used in the manufacture of plastic products.

Products potentially containing high levels of this chemical had been distributed to Vietnam, the Philippines, and several regions of China.
