Fiji's Citizens Constitutional Forum is backing calls to get work underway on a new constitution as soon as possible.

The administration created, National Peoples Charter Advisory Council ,has recommended in a report that the process needs to be fast tracked as work has been limited so far.

The Solicitor General has said work will start on drawing up a new document next year before elections in 2014.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Citizens Constitutional Forum, the Reverend Akuila Yabaki, says the report opens the door for people to put aside differences and take part in consultations:

"One crucial step and it's got to be a credible one, is to get up to the level of political dialogue with politcal stake holders. I think that's the one that needs to be undertaken."

The Reverend Yabaki says the new constitution would also outline the new electoral system under which the next general elections would be conducted.
