Amnesty International has warned that a human rights activist in the Indonesian province of Papua, Yones Douw, is at risk after he was beaten by military officers last week and then denied medical treatment.
According to Amnesty, Yones Douw fears for his health and safety as he has previously been detained and assaulted as a result of his human rights activities.
This follows a violent protest in Nabire in Papua province over the stabbing and killing of a Papuan Derek Adii last month.
Yones Douw rushed to the scene to calm the protesters, but was reportedly assaulted.
Going to hospital he was told by medical staff that he required a letter from the police before they could treat him.
