Fiji Blood Services take immediate steps to help donors found to be HIV positive

Fiji National Blood Sevices National Co-ordinator Josefa Bolaqace says the service takes immediate action to get help for those potential donors found to be HIV positive.

Nearly ten and a half thousand people donated blood last year and Mr Bolaqace says a low number were found to be HIV positive when they went through the testing process.

He says the programme has helped identify those who have no idea they are HIV positive.

"I believe we have done a great deal in identifying them and letting them know of their status and the referring them to appropriate units for care counselling, treatment and so forth."
