Fiji's interim Tourism Minister, Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum, has been talking up the prospects for the future of the industry in Fiji.

Last month, the annual gathering of tourism operators and overseas buyers and bookers was held on the Coral Coast.

Mr Sayed Khaiyum, who is also the Attorney General, says while visitor numbers increasing there is a need to increase the amount spent income by each visitor.

He would also like more co-operation with other tourist destinations to be able to provide attractive holiday packages to tourists:

"You can sell for example Fiji with Vanuatu or Solomon Islands or Tonga, Samoa, Cook Islands, what ever it may be and package that."

Mr Sayed Khaiyum there are also opportunities to be explored at developing packages including New Zealand and Australia.
