Non-voters dumped from American Samoa roll

7:04 pm on 23 June 2011

The election office in American Samoa has purged the names of more than 1600 voters who didn't vote in the 2008 and 2010 elections.

Letters have been sent informing them of their status and advising they re-register if they want to cast ballots in next year's elections.

It's the trend that voter numbers drop when the election is for the congressional seat and local House of Representatives only, then surge for the four yearly vote for governor.

Election law requires the purging of voters who do not vote in two consecutive elections.
