Fifty five troops from the Fiji Military will soon leave for peacekeeping duties in Iraq.
FijiLive reports a request was made by the United Nations to ensure security transition after the withdrawal of the United States Forces by December 2011.
It says Cabinet has approved and endorsed the immediate deployment of 55 additional troops to Iraq, bringing a total strength to 278 all ranks.
Fiji has been engaged in sending soldiers for peacekeeping duties in Iraq since December 2004.
Australia had lobbied against Fiji taking part in peacekeeping missions, but foreign minister reversed that position in May.
