Air Tahiti Nui is today expected to have its service between Papeete and Auckland after an unlimited strike by some crew members prompted it to defer yesterday's scheduled flight.

The strike has divided the various union affiliated to air transport but its impact has been limited in part because the carrier chartered an Air New Zealand Boeing 747 to maintain flights between Tahiti and Los Angeles.

Yesterday's Auckland flight was cancelled but the airline says one of the strike leaders, who is a co-pilot, reported for duty for the flight.

Air Tahiti Nui is meanwhile also facing a strike threat by cabin staff planning to take action at the weekend.
