The gap between the best and the rest was ruthlessly exposed as New Zealand romped to a 80-25 win over Fiji at the Netball World Championships in Singapore on Monday.
Pacific champions Fiji, who are ranked fifth in the world, were completely outclassed by the worlds top-ranked team, with the Silver Ferns restricting them to just eight goals in the second half.
Fiji captain Matila Waqanidrola says they struggled to keep up with the pace of the game employed by the Silver Ferns.
"We really lacked from the intensity today. It's good to start off with a strong game and that will help us to go back to out training tomorrow and work on some of the little things that didn't work so well today and hopefully tomorrow we will put everything together."
Matila Waqanidrola says the team have targeted today's game with Trinidad and Tobago, who beat Wales in their first match, as a must win to get their tournament back on track.
Meanwhile Samoa were similarly humbled by defending champions Australia, going down 81-23.
Their next match is against Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
Other winners the first full days play were Jamaica, Northern Ireland, England and Barbados.
