Air Tahiti Nui strike looms to back CEO

The main unions represented at Air Tahiti Nui say they will hold a one-day strike on July the 11th in support of the carrier's CEO, Cedric Pastour, whose dismissal has been expected to be confirmed next week.

Last week, a five-day strike by some crew members ended with them saying that they expected the airline's board to sack Mr Pastour following a dispute over the disciplining of two staff members.

His dismissal was reportedly agreed to in talks with the president, Oscar Temaru.

Most airline personnel opposed last week's action and flights were largely maintained.

The unions have opposed the announced settlement, with a statement saying they won't allow their jobs and company to be in the hands of manipulators.

The original dispute stems from some crews opposing any punishment for two of their colleagues who had assaulted an American Airlines employee in a Tokyo hotel.
