10:05 am on 12 July 2011

More than 250 thousand US dollars was raised for Manu Samoa's Rugby World Cup campaign at a Corporate Luncheon held at the weekend.

The luncheon, which was hosted by the Prime Minister, is the first of a number of events leading up until the world cup aimed at helping the SRU raise an extra

1-point-9 million dollars.

Mobile phone provider Digicel Samoa and the TAB donated just over 40 thousand US dollars, while the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa, Life Assurance Corporation, Blue Sky and Yazaki EDS each handed over more than 20 thousand dollars towards the world cup campaign.

Among the other donors were Air New Zealand, Westpac Bank, the Chinese Embassy and the New Zealand High Commissioner to Samoa, His Excellency Nick Hurley.

Funsraising efforts will continue over the coming weeks with a national telethon and a corporate dinner before the team departs for New Zealand.
