Vanuatu's Government has signed an agreement for the French power company Unelco to extend its electricity supply from it power plant in Lakatoro to Vao in North East Malekula, over 20 km away.

Unelco currently supplies power to the Malampa Provincial capital of Lakatoro and Norsup.

Prime Minister Sato Kilman and members of his cabinet jointly signed an extension agreement with the Chief Executive Officer of Unelco, Phillipe Hrenberger, for the company to expand its service to Vao.

The Prime Minister says it is a signal of Malekula's economic positive growth.

Unelco also supplies electricity to Port Vila and Efate, Luganville and Santo, and Isangel and Lenakel in Tanna.
