The former Guadalcanal Revolutionary Army Commander Andrew Te'e has received a conditional pardon from the Solomon Islands Governor General Sir Frank Kabui.
Andrew Te'e is a convicted murderer who was serving seven life sentences for crimes committed during the ethnic tensions.
The most recent sentencing was in March when Te'e pleaded guilty to shooting a man at point blank range with a .22 rifle.
The conditional pardon came on the recommendation of the Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy, and is effective immediately.
Te'e has been pardoned on condition that if he commits another criminal act in the next three years he will serve the remainder of his original sentence.
He must also take part in the reconciliation process on Guadalcanal and throughout Solomon Islands.
