The police in Samoa are investigating the death of a Tuvalu government minister found dead in his hotel room in Apia this morning.

It is suspected the minister has died from natural causes but a forensic examination and a post mortem may be needed to confirm the cause of death.

No immediate information is available from the police but a government source says the minister, Isaia Italeli, arrived last Thursday for the Forum Fisheries Ministers' meeting scheduled to open tomorrow in Apia.

The 48 year old was Tuvalu's Minister of Works and Natural Resources.
