A Papua New Guinea police chief says specific laws are needed for sorcery-related killings, following the horrific deaths of three women.
The National Capital District Metropolitan commander Joseph Tondop says it appears the women were abducted just outside Port Moresby, tortured, hacked with weapons, and strangled.
He says it's believed the women were attacked after they were accused of using sorcery to kill a businessman, who died in a car accident.
Joseph Tondop says he supports a review considering the introduction of specific laws and tougher penalties to deal with such crimes.
He says it's worrying such killings are happening in the capital
"At this time and age we are very concerned that this type of killings are still occurring in the city. We've had this type of killing normally in other parts of the country but it's happening in the city and we police will not rest on this case we will get to the bottom of this."
Joseph Tondop says the businessman's family are suspected of involvement in the killings.
