Frustrated census workers in Papua New Guinea have stormed the provincial headquarters of Chimbu demanding their allowances for work they had done during the census exercise.
About 3000 workers turned violent when they found out that they wouldn't get their promised allowances on time.
The stormed the headquarters, damaging two government cars and forcing public servants to flee their offices for fear of being attacked.
The newspaper, the Post Courier, says the provincial census co-ordinator Arabil Gonapa was under siege in his office but quick police action prevented a nasty confrontation.
Mr Gonapa says there was a misunderstanding over the payment and he's assured the workers they'll be paid.
