In American Samoa the Manu'a Senator Galea'i Tuufuli says it's time for the territory to elect the governor and lieutenant governor separately.
When the Fono resumes on August the 8th, Galea'i is introducing a bill to make that happen.
Similar bills in the past have failed but Galea'i is confident his legislation will pass both houses because of the current political climate.
He's hopeful the bill will get the governor's endorsement and be enacted before the 2012 general elections.
"This is my attempt to allow other young men and young women, who are potentially good leaders, to come in and vie for this position. There may be a good governor sitting out there somewhere and no one will ever pick him as a running mate. It also gives the voter a choice to elect a lieutenant governor, instead of being selected by the governor."
