Drive for a better deal for the disabled to continue next week in Fiji

The drive to gain a better deal for the disabled in the Pacific will be highlighted at a meeting next week in Fiji.

Fifteen countries will be represented at the second Government Focal Points Disability meeting in Nadi.

Last year's Pacific Islands Forum Leaders meeting in Vanuatu endorsed a strategy plan which aims to improve the outlook for the estimated 800,000 disabled people in the Pacific.

The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat's Disability Co-ordination Officer, Fredrick Miller, says the workings of the strategy and the proposal the Australian government fund its implementation, will be key topics at next week's meeting.

"So we're going to be presenting this to these government reps from the countries in Nadi. The design proposal, what it includes, what it entails, how much it costs and their role and responsibility at the government level, the roles of partners in working together in collaboration to move this forward."
